Improved Flash Webpage Captures with New Feature!

by SnapCasaFounder 26. February 2009 23:10

The ability to capture flash based websites has been a feature of SnapCasa since its initial launch.  Today I am happy to introduce a new feature which will further improve SnapCasa’s ability to capture accurate flash webpage’s.  The new ‘speed’ parameter will enable premium users to extend the wait time before a snapshot is captured.  This will allow flash elements to completely load and be captured correctly.  Setting the ‘speed’  parameters value to ‘2’ will extend the wait time before a capture is made.  This feature does not cost any additional credits.

I have tested this feature and have seen great results on many flash webpage’s.  However, I will need to hear feedback from other users utilizing this feature to see if the wait time that is currently set is sufficient.  If you are still receiving partial captures of flash webpage’s please send each individual url to me.  I will take a look at each one and adjust the wait time if necessary.  You can send the urls and feedback to me directly by using the contact form on SnapCasa.com.

The speed feature is quite a useful and exciting feature.  There will be another half to this feature introduced later which will allow users to capture accurate snapshots in just a few seconds.

SnapCasa Compatible with Flash and Client Requests

by SnapCasaFounder 14. February 2009 00:01

SnapCasa requires users to register the domains/IPs from which they will make requests as a security precaution to prevent credit theft.  This requirement posed a serious limitation for users who wanted to utilize our snapshots using Flash and other similar client side technologies.  SnapCasa could not validate such requests because each request came directly from the client machine instead of the website containing the Flash object.  This would require our users to register each of their visitors IP addresses for requests to be authenticated successfully.

Today I am happy to introduce a Premium feature which will enable our users to make snapshot requests using Flash.  In the redesigned Register Domains Page users will find a new Client Side Requests section.  Enabling client side requests for your account will generate a Request Key which will be unique to your account.  This key should be included with every request that originates from a clients machine instead of a website domain or server IP like so:

http://snapcasa.com/get.aspx?code=1000&key=CERT82IE&size=s&url=ebay.com

It is important to know that this key value should never be visible to your visitors.  It is strictly made for use with Flash or similar technologies which allow you to conceal the images source from the end user.  If you feel that someone managed to get a hold of your request key value you can request a new one from within the Register Domains page.  The old key value will become invalid as soon as a new one is issued.

This feature does not cost any credits for Premium Users and is not available to Basic users at this time.  You can see a live implementation of this feature here.  The flash animation on that page makes requests to SnapCasa without registering your IP.

Enjoy this new feature and make sure you check back here again soon as there are many major improvements and new features coming to SnapCasa!

Thanks again to all my loyal users! Show your support by upgrading to premium so that I may continue to improve SnapCasa for you!
