SnapCasa Serves 100 Million Snapshots!

by SnapCasaFounder 10. March 2009 23:13

SnapCasa has now served over 100 million snapshots!  Since about six months ago when SnapCasa v2 was launched I have released many new features and made many improvements.  My primary focus to this point has been perfecting the snapshot capture process on the backend.  My focus will now shift to improving some frontend aspects of SnapCasa such as creating a user guide, a Help Center/FAQ page, and improving the checkout process.  A community portion of SnapCasa is also high on my list of improvements to develop.  I hope to create a discussion board and also an implementations section where users can share scripts which utilize SnapCasa.

The Dedicated Service will also be available shortly.  We have several high volume users which would benefit from the increased performance while paying lower prices.  Those are just a few things to look forward to the next few months.  It took six months for SnapCasa to serve 100 million requests but it is growing at such a rapid rate that it will likely surpass 500 million in the next six months.

I would also like to thank all of my loyal users, especially those who used the service even before v2 was released.  Keep the feedback and ideas coming!  Check this blog occasionally, I will be posting special discounts and contests in the future!

Thanks,

Greg Rogoszewski

New Feature - Update Website Thumbnails in Intervals

by SnapCasaFounder 6. March 2009 18:33

Today I would like to introduce a new parameter which will make it easier for premium users to make update requests.  The new ‘age’ parameter accepts a numeric value which represents the maximum amount of time to allow a snapshot to be requested without an update.  The numeric value passed with the age parameter represents the hours since the last update.  For instance, if you attach age=24 to your requests each snapshot will be updated every 24 hours.

http://snapcasa.com/get.aspx?code=1000&size=s&age=48&url=ask.com

You can also pass decimal values such as 1.25 which will update your snapshots every 75 minutes.  Snapshots can be update at maximum every 15 minutes and at minimum every 30 days.  As with the alternative way to request snapshot updates introduced in December, there is a three credit charge per update request.

Improved Flash Webpage Captures with New Feature!

by SnapCasaFounder 26. February 2009 23:10

The ability to capture flash based websites has been a feature of SnapCasa since its initial launch.  Today I am happy to introduce a new feature which will further improve SnapCasa’s ability to capture accurate flash webpage’s.  The new ‘speed’ parameter will enable premium users to extend the wait time before a snapshot is captured.  This will allow flash elements to completely load and be captured correctly.  Setting the ‘speed’  parameters value to ‘2’ will extend the wait time before a capture is made.  This feature does not cost any additional credits.

http://snapcasa.com/get.aspx?code=1000&size=s&speed=2&url=pepsi.com

I have tested this feature and have seen great results on many flash webpage’s.  However, I will need to hear feedback from other users utilizing this feature to see if the wait time that is currently set is sufficient.  If you are still receiving partial captures of flash webpage’s please send each individual url to me.  I will take a look at each one and adjust the wait time if necessary.  You can send the urls and feedback to me directly by using the contact form on SnapCasa.com.

The speed feature is quite a useful and exciting feature.  There will be another half to this feature introduced later which will allow users to capture accurate snapshots in just a few seconds.

New Parameter Eliminates Waiting!

by SnapCasaFounder 25. February 2009 01:29

Premium users can now take advantage of yet another new parameter.  You may have noticed that if a snapshot is being captured for the first time the request may take up to 20 seconds or longer to complete while the webpage is captured.  The new ‘wait’ parameter will enable users to immediately receive a processing snapshot instead of waiting for the capture.  This feature is also useful when you want to submit a snapshot for processing which you will be needing later.

http://snapcasa.com/get.aspx?code=1000&size=s&wait=0&url=msn.com

Always place the ‘wait’ parameter before the ‘url’ parameter.  Setting a value of 0 for the wait parameter will immediately return a ‘Processing’ graphic if the requested url is not currently stored in our cache.   This feature does not cost any additional credits.  Enjoy!

SnapCasa Compatible with Flash and Client Requests

by SnapCasaFounder 14. February 2009 00:01

SnapCasa requires users to register the domains/IPs from which they will make requests as a security precaution to prevent credit theft.  This requirement posed a serious limitation for users who wanted to utilize our snapshots using Flash and other similar client side technologies.  SnapCasa could not validate such requests because each request came directly from the client machine instead of the website containing the Flash object.  This would require our users to register each of their visitors IP addresses for requests to be authenticated successfully.

Today I am happy to introduce a Premium feature which will enable our users to make snapshot requests using Flash.  In the redesigned Register Domains Page users will find a new Client Side Requests section.  Enabling client side requests for your account will generate a Request Key which will be unique to your account.  This key should be included with every request that originates from a clients machine instead of a website domain or server IP like so:

http://snapcasa.com/get.aspx?code=1000&key=CERT82IE&size=s&url=ebay.com

It is important to know that this key value should never be visible to your visitors.  It is strictly made for use with Flash or similar technologies which allow you to conceal the images source from the end user.  If you feel that someone managed to get a hold of your request key value you can request a new one from within the Register Domains page.  The old key value will become invalid as soon as a new one is issued.

This feature does not cost any credits for Premium Users and is not available to Basic users at this time.  You can see a live implementation of this feature here.  The flash animation on that page makes requests to SnapCasa without registering your IP.

Enjoy this new feature and make sure you check back here again soon as there are many major improvements and new features coming to SnapCasa!

Thanks again to all my loyal users! Show your support by upgrading to premium so that I may continue to improve SnapCasa for you!

New SnapCasa Feature - Update Website Thumbnails on Demand

by SnapCasaFounder 1. December 2008 21:00

The ability to update snapshots on demand has been the most requested feature by SnapCasa users.  Today I am happy to announce the new feature which will allow premium users to update snapshots on their schedule.  The information provided below regarding this new feature applies only to premium users.  We will allow both basic and premium users to manually make update requests from their admin pages shortly.

Making an update request is as simple as making a snap request.  Each update request will subtract three premium credits from your account.  Update requests should be sent to the url below with the three required parameters included.

http://SnapCasa.com/update.aspx?code=[CODE]&update=[UPDATE]&url=[URL]

Required Parameters:

·         code: This is your unique user code and is identical to the one you use to make snapshot requests.  You can find your user code by logging into your admin account.

·         update:  This parameter should contain a value of 0 or 1.  You should use a value of 0 when you want to retrieve the last modified date of a particular snapshot.  There is no credit charge for this type of request.  If you would like to initiate an update of a snapshot you should set this value to 1.

·         url: This is the url of the snapshot you would like to update.  The url must have been captured before to initiate an update.

Sample Request:

http://SnapCasa.com/update.aspx?code=1000&update=1&url=google.com

Update Request Responses:

SnapCasa will respond to your request with custom headers and will also display a message on the page.  The header ‘update-status’ will be returned with each request.  The possible numeric values are:

·         1 –  Update request was successful.

·         2 –  URL already queued for update.

·         3 – Requested url doesn’t exist.

·         4 – Invalid parameter values.

·         5 –  Missing parameter values.

·         6 –  Invalid url.

·         7 –  Insufficient Credits

·         8 –  Info request successful (only when update parameter = 0)

The header ‘snapshot-modified’ will also be returned when ‘update-status’ equals 1, 2, or 8.  This header will contain the date when the snapshot was last modified in the format 12/01/2008 12:00:00 AM

Update requests have top priority and are usually processed within a minute.  If you have any questions regarding this new feature please feel free to contact me directly using the Contact Us page on SnapCasa.com.

Thanks,

Greg
